About John Gelasi
John Gelasi has spent years establishing himself as one of the magic community's most exciting up-and-coming young talents, in addition to pursuing a degree in another subject area close to his heart since childhood: music education.
Mr. Gelasi’s conducting teachers have included Roger Garrett and Cody Halberstadt (wind band), Lev Ivanov (orchestral and wind band), and J. Scott Ferguson (choral). He studied trombone with Timothy Pitchford.
While at Illinois Wesleyan, Mr. Gelasi performed with the Illinois Wesleyan Civic Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Winds, University Choir, Jazz Lab Band, Trombone Choir, and Titan Band, the university athletic band, for which he also served as a conductor for two years.
In July of 2016, he will appear as a featured guest conductor with the famous Woodstock City Band in Woodstock, Illinois, the oldest community band in the United States, for the finale concert of their 132nd season.
An actively performing magician, John's close-up magic performances provide a fun, engaging, and incredible addition to any social gathering or event. As an author of magic books for magicians and an avid creator of magical tricks, John’s work has been praised by magic greats such as Peter Duffie, Cameron Francis, David Acer, John Carey, Tom Frame, Joshua Jay, and others. He’s worked closely with and was mentored by the late Italian close-up magic legend and FISM award-winner Aldo Colombini, who said, “John will soon be a new star in the firmament of card magic.”
John has performed professionally at many notable venues, including the Stage Left Cafe at the historic Woodstock Opera House in Woodstock, Illinois, San Filippo Estates in Barrington Hills, Illinois, and the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts in Bloomington-Normal.
In addition, John’s original effect “Daley Plus Two” was written up and featured in the February 2012 issue of Genii magazine, one of the oldest and most prestigious monthly magazine publications for magicians in the world.
